Book storageA city in its own right
Ordsall Hall, the black and white Tudor manor that has stood in Ordsall for centuries, is the landmark Salford residents reach for when they want to place themselves. The streets around it, across Ordsall, Seedley and New Windsor, are mostly Victorian terraced housing built when Salford was an industrial city in its own right, before the boundaries blurred with Manchester and Greater Manchester took over the map. Those streets hold a lot of uprights, bought over decades by Salford families who put children through lessons and accumulated instruments that outlasted the lessons by many years. The piano in the front room is now the one we most often collect on a Tuesday.
Salford Quays and Weaste tell a different story. The regeneration around the Quays has brought apartment blocks, commercial conversions and a different household altogether. Younger professionals, musicians and producers drawn by the studios and broadcast facilities on the waterside, people who move more often and sometimes need the piano held while a contract runs elsewhere or a new flat is waiting. We collect from Salford M5 addresses every Tuesday and the instrument travels 135 miles to our climate-controlled Oxfordshire facility, where it stays in stable conditions for as long as it is needed.

Collection day
We collect across the M postcode area on Tuesdays, weekly. M5 is the main Salford district, covering Ordsall, Seedley, New Windsor and Little Bolton. The Tuesday route extends across the surrounding area as well: M3 along the River Irwell and into the Greengate and Chapel Street area, M50 covering Salford Quays and Weaste, and M30 taking in Eccles, Patricroft, Peel Green, Ellesmere Park, Monton and Westwood Park. We also cover M15 (Moss Side, Hulme and St George's), M16 (Whalley Range and Old Trafford) and M17 (Wharfside and Trafford Park) on the same run. The full list of villages and districts is set out in the section below.
We confirm a three-hour target window the evening before collection. Stair access at your address is assessed and costed clearly when you book online, so you have the full picture before you confirm. There are no additions on the day. If Tuesday genuinely cannot be made to work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an additional charge.
Villages and districts
M5 is the core Salford district: Ordsall, Seedley, New Windsor and Little Bolton. M3 covers the city-centre-side of Salford running along the River Irwell, taking in addresses in the Greengate and Chapel Street area. M50 covers Salford Quays and Weaste, two parts of Salford that have changed significantly in the last two decades and now hold a wide variety of property types from modern apartments to larger commercial conversions.
M30 is the largest of the adjacent districts on our Tuesday run, covering Eccles, Patricroft, Peel Green, Ellesmere Park, Monton and Westwood Park. M15 takes in Moss Side, Hulme and St George's. M16 covers Whalley Range and Old Trafford. M17 covers Wharfside and Trafford Park. The online booking form checks your postcode automatically as you enter it, so you can confirm your collection day before going further.
Why conditions matter
The Victorian and interwar terraces across Ordsall, Seedley and the residential streets running between the old town centre and the Quays are solid homes, but they have solid walls, original windows and heating systems that leave a piano in a difficult environment over the course of a year. A winter in an empty house, or a summer where humidity follows the Manchester weather in through period-original windows, causes the soundboard to swell and contract, loosens tuning pins and softens the glue in the action. The longer a piano sits in those conditions, the harder it is to bring it back into good order.
A standard self-storage unit does not improve matters. Temperature and humidity in an ordinary unit follow the outdoor seasons, which means conditions no better than the home it came from. Our Oxfordshire facility holds both at a stable level throughout the year. Full insurance covers the instrument from the moment our crew arrives in Salford to collect it, through every week it is with us, and through to re-delivery.
Who uses the service
Families in Ordsall, Seedley and across M5 account for a large share of Tuesday collections. The pattern is usually the same: a piano bought for children who have grown up and moved out, now sitting in a room the owner wants back, sometimes in a house that is being sold or renovated. We collect on Tuesday, store the piano at stable conditions in Oxfordshire, and re-deliver to any GB mainland or Belfast address whenever the next chapter is settled.
Musicians and media professionals around Salford Quays, Wharfside and Weaste use the service for different reasons. A touring musician who needs the piano held while they are away for six months, a producer moving studio, or someone between flats who needs the instrument kept for a few months: the booking and process are the same regardless of the circumstances.
Probate and estate situations are a steady part of what we handle from across the M area. When an instrument needs to be held securely while an estate resolves, the piano can be collected without the executor being present on the day, provided access details are given at booking. The crew handles everything and the piano is insured throughout.
