Dockyards, universities and Victorian terraces

Plymouth pianos need storage for plenty of reasons

Plymouth is a city where people move around a lot. Naval and service families based at Devonport get posting orders and need somewhere safe for the piano while they are away for months or years at a stretch. Students at the University of Plymouth head home for summer or finish their degrees and cannot take a full-size upright with them. Families in the period terraces of Mutley Plain, Peverell or Ford put a piano into storage while builders take over the ground floor. And across South Devon, from Plymstock and Plympton out to Ivybridge, Kingsbridge and Totnes, people downsize or renovate and need the instrument out of the way for a while.

Our specialist piano crews collect from all of them. Plymouth has no shortage of narrow staircases and steep Victorian flights, and our crews handle those routinely. Access arrangements, parking restrictions and tight hallways are all part of a normal collection day.

Fridays across the PL postcodes

Plymouth and the surrounding PL postcode area are on our Friday route. We confirm a three-hour target window the day before, so you are not waiting in all day. If Friday genuinely does not work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an added charge.

Stairs without a lift are priced transparently in the booking, so you know the full figure before you confirm. No surprises on the day.

A coastal climate is hard on a piano

Damp air off the Sound is exactly what storage protects against

Plymouth sits at the edge of the sea, and that shows in how buildings behave. The air carries more moisture than inland cities, and properties close to the waterfront or on exposed ground feel damp spells quickly. A piano in a Victorian terraced room or a stone-built house can absorb that moisture through the soundboard, making the instrument difficult to keep in tune and eventually causing swelling, cracking or sticking action.

Our storage facility holds steady temperature and humidity year-round, regardless of what the weather off the Sound is doing. Your piano goes in stable and comes out stable. It is also held on full insurance with round-the-clock monitored security, so a posting, a long renovation or a gap between homes leaves the instrument in safe hands.

Questions

How often do you collect in Plymouth?

We run a set Friday collection route across Plymouth and the PL postcode area. We confirm a three-hour target window the day before. If you need collection on a different day, that can be arranged for an added charge.

Do you cover South Devon beyond Plymouth itself?

Yes. We cover the full PL postcode area, including Plymstock, Plympton, Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Tavistock and the surrounding towns and villages across South Devon.

My piano is up a steep flight of stairs. Can you still collect it?

Yes. Our specialist piano crews are used to narrow Victorian staircases and steep domestic flights across Plymouth. Stair access is priced transparently when you book, so you know the full cost before you confirm.

We are a naval family on a posting. Can you store a piano for a year or more?

Yes, and this is one of the most common reasons people come to us in Plymouth. There is no minimum or maximum term. We store for a few weeks or several years equally. You pay for the time you use and book re-delivery when you are back.

Is my piano insured while it is in your facility?

Yes. Full insurance covers your instrument from collection through its entire time in our climate-controlled facility and through to re-delivery. The store is monitored around the clock.

Can a student store a piano over summer or between academic years?

Yes, and it is often the most sensible option. There is no minimum term, so a single summer break or a longer gap between years both work. You pay only for the weeks you use.
