Book storageNorth East piano storage
Newcastle upon Tyne has more than its share of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, particularly in Jesmond, Heaton and Arthur's Hill, and the narrow hallways and steep internal stairs in those properties are one of the most common reasons people call us. Getting a piano out of a third-floor flat on a tight stairwell is not a job for a general removal crew. Our specialist piano crews assess the access before anything is moved, wrap the instrument properly, and take it out cleanly without damage to the piano or the building.
Beyond access, people store with us when life moves faster than the piano can follow. A house sale going through before the next property is ready, a renovation that has run six months longer than planned, a student heading away for a placement year at Newcastle University or Northumbria, a musician on an extended working tour, an executor who needs an instrument out of a family home quickly and safely. The reasons are almost always practical, and the service is the same whatever brings you to it.

Collection day
Our Newcastle and NE-area collections run on Thursdays. A single Thursday run keeps the route efficient and the pricing consistent. We confirm a three-hour target window the day before, so you can plan your morning rather than wait in for most of it. If a Thursday genuinely cannot work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an added charge.
Any stairs or access complications are priced clearly in the online booking before you confirm anything. What you see at booking is what you pay on the day.
Why climate control matters in the North East
The North East has a genuinely maritime climate. Winters are cold and damp rather than dry, and the sea air that moves in off the North Sea keeps relative humidity higher than most of inland England for much of the year. A piano sitting in an unheated spare room, an empty house, or a property that is vacant through probate will take in that moisture slowly and steadily. Soundboards swell and contract, tuning pins lose their grip, and an action that played well in September can feel noticeably heavier or unresponsive by February.
Our storage facility maintains a stable temperature and controlled relative humidity throughout the year. Your instrument is not exposed to the seasonal swings that cause the damage. Full insurance covers it from the moment our crew lifts it at your door to the moment it arrives back with you. The facility is monitored around the clock with no public access.
That standard of care is the same whether the piano is with us for five weeks or five years. As part of the Pianospeed Group, specialist piano collection, handling and storage form a single operation. Nothing is handed to a third party at any point.
Area coverage
The NE postcode area covers a great deal of ground beyond the city centre. We collect from Gateshead, Jarrow, South Shields and across the South Tyneside boroughs; from North Tyneside including Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and Wallsend; and from Northumberland towns including Cramlington, Ponteland and Hexham, as far north as Morpeth and east to Blyth. If you are unsure whether your address falls on the Thursday route, the booking form confirms it when you enter your postcode.
For university collections from Newcastle University and Northumbria University, including student houses, halls and accommodation managed by either institution, we can work to any access or porter arrangements given at the time of booking.
What we take in
We store upright pianos, baby grands, grands and concert grands. We also take digital pianos, stage pianos and keyboards, and we can hold associated items such as a stool, pedal board or dust cover in the same booking. If you have a question about a particular instrument or an unusual access situation, call or email before booking and we will confirm what is involved.
Pricing for Newcastle upon Tyne
Prices include collection, climate-controlled storage and full insurance. Stairs without a lift and off-day collections are priced transparently in the booking. Re-delivery is quoted when you are ready for the piano back.
