We collect pianos from Huddersfield and across the HD postcode area on Thursdays, hold them in stable climate-controlled conditions at our Oxfordshire facility, and return them whenever you are ready.
Book storageStone and valley
St George's Square is the address that anchors Huddersfield. The Italianate facade of the railway station has been there since 1850, and if you have ever given or received directions in the town you will almost certainly have used it as your starting point. The square and the stone buildings surrounding it set the tone for the wider townscape: solid, built to last, and carrying a good deal of civic memory. The terraces climbing the hillsides around Springwood, Ashbrow and Newtown are built in the same spirit, and many of them have held the same upright piano in the same front room for a very long time.
The University of Huddersfield draws a steady flow of students and staff who need somewhere for a piano during a move or a change of circumstance. The mill conversion flats in the valley bottom and the older residential streets on the hillsides in Lindley, Edgerton and Birkby see different kinds of piano situations: a baby grand in a converted building with a change of ownership, a family upright in a Birkby semi whose owners are ready to downsize. We collect from all of them on Thursdays, and the piano is 140 miles away in our climate-controlled Oxfordshire facility the same day.

Collection day
We collect across the HD postcode area on Thursdays, weekly. HD1 is the core Huddersfield district, covering the town centre and the streets around St George's Square. The Thursday route extends across the full spread of HD postcodes, reaching into the valley and hillside communities described in the section below. We confirm a three-hour target window the evening before collection so you know whether to expect the crew in the morning or the afternoon without needing to keep the whole day clear.
Stair access at your address is assessed and priced clearly when you book online, so there are no additions on collection day. The piano travels 140 miles to our Oxfordshire facility on the Thursday we collect it and stays in stable conditions until you are ready for it to come back. If Thursday genuinely cannot be made to work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an additional charge.
Villages and districts
HD1 takes in the town centre and the residential streets close to it: Lockwood, Paddock, Thornton Lodge, Bradley Mills, Hillhouse, Shearing Cross and Newtown. HD2 covers the northern and eastern spread of the town: Bradley, Edgerton, Fixby, Brackenhall, Deighton and Birkby. HD3 reaches west across the hillside into Salendine Nook, Milnsbridge, Lindley, Marsh, Longwood and Quarmby.
HD4 covers the southern side: Crosland Moor, Newsome, Cowlersley, Crosland Hill, Almondbury Common and Berry Brow. HD5 extends east to Almondbury, Dalton, Moldgreen, Waterloo, Rawthorpe and Grove Place. The online booking form checks your postcode as you enter it, so you can confirm your collection day and see the full picture before going any further.
Why conditions matter
Huddersfield sits in the Pennines, and the climate reflects that position. The valleys channel damp air, and the stone walls of the hillside terraces, built to endure rather than to insulate, absorb moisture readily. A piano in a poorly-heated terrace room over a Pennine winter is exposed to the kind of humidity swings that loosen tuning pins, swell soundboards and soften the glue in the action. Over months, those effects are cumulative, and a piano in a cold or damp room deteriorates faster than most owners realise until the tuner comes and tells them.
An ordinary self-storage unit does nothing to improve this. Temperature and humidity inside a standard unit follow the outdoor weather, which in West Yorkshire means the same variable, often damp air the piano came from. Our Oxfordshire facility holds both at a steady level throughout the year. Full insurance covers the instrument from the moment our crew arrives on Thursday, through every week it is with us, and through to re-delivery.
Who uses the service
Families across the HD1, HD2 and HD5 residential streets make up a large share of Thursday collections. The common thread is usually a piano the household no longer has the right room for: an address being sold, a room being given over to something else, or a move to a smaller home. The piano comes to us on Thursday, waits in stable conditions in Oxfordshire, and is re-delivered to any GB mainland or Belfast address when the next home is ready.
The University of Huddersfield generates a steady pattern of short-notice collections from students and staff relocating between terms or moving elsewhere. Estates and probate instructions arrive regularly from across the HD area: the instrument can be collected without the executor present, provided access details are given at booking, and it is fully insured throughout.
Pricing for Huddersfield
Prices include collection, climate-controlled storage and full insurance. Stairs without a lift and off-day collections are priced transparently in the booking. Re-delivery is quoted when you are ready for the piano back.
