Areas we cover
We collect pianos from Oldham and across the OL postcode area on Tuesdays, store them at steady temperature and humidity in our Oxfordshire facility, and bring them back whenever you are ready.
Book storageOldham on its own terms
The parish church of St Mary with St Peter stands over the centre of Oldham the way it always has, and locals still use it to point out the top of town. Around it, and stretching out through Coldhurst, Mumps and the surrounding streets, sits a large stock of uprights bought during the decades when Oldham families put children through regular lessons. Those children are grown, moved to Manchester or further, and the instrument is now in a room whose purpose has changed.
Oldham is a mill town built in the Victorian period, which means its housing stock is older, often terraced and sometimes narrow. When a piano needs to move out, access can be tight. Our specialist crews are used to steep stairwells and close hallways across the OL area. The instrument is wrapped where it stands and travels 135 miles to our climate-controlled Oxfordshire facility, where it stays in stable conditions until you call for it.

Collection day
We collect across OL postcodes every Tuesday. OL1 covers Oldham town centre, Mumps, Sholver, Moorside, West Hulme, Acre, Oldham Edge and Cold Hurst. The Tuesday route extends across the wider OL area as well, taking in Royton and Shaw in OL2, Greenfield and the Saddleworth villages in OL3, Lees and Watersheddings in OL4, Coppice, Werneth and Hollinwood in OL8, and Chadderton in OL9. The full list of villages and districts is set out in the section below.
We confirm a three-hour target window the evening before your collection. Stair access at your address is assessed and costed clearly when you book online, so you have the full picture before you confirm anything. Stairs are chargeable and that charge is agreed at booking, with no additions on the day. If Tuesday genuinely does not suit, an off-day collection can be arranged for an additional charge.
Villages and districts
OL1 is the main Oldham district: town centre, Mumps, Sholver, Moorside, West Hulme, Acre, Oldham Edge and Cold Hurst. OL2 takes in Royton, Shaw, High Crompton, Lower Rushcroft, Higginshaw and Crompton Fold. OL3 covers Greenfield, Dacres, Braeside, Waterside, Tame Water and Boarshurst, which includes much of the Saddleworth area.
OL4 covers Lees, Pitses, Moorhey, Watersheddings, Holts and Greenacres Moor. OL8 takes in Coppice, Werneth, Fitton Hill, Hollinwood, Lime Side and Hathershaw. OL9 covers Chadderton, White Gate, North Moor, Chadderton Park, White Gate End and Stock Brook. We also collect from M24, covering Middleton, Alkrington Garden Village, Langley, Lime Field and Middleton Junction, which sits alongside the OL area to the west.
If your address falls within any of these districts, you are on the Tuesday route. The online booking form checks your postcode automatically as you enter it.
Why storage conditions matter
Much of the residential property across Coldhurst, Mumps, Moorside and the roads running between the town centre and the hills was built in the Victorian and interwar periods. These are solid homes, but they carry older heating systems and varying levels of insulation that give a piano a difficult environment over the course of a year. A winter in an unheated front room, or a summer where sash windows are left open and humidity rises with the rain off the moors, causes the soundboard to swell and contract, loosens the tuning pins and softens the glue in the action. The longer a piano sits in those conditions, the harder it becomes to bring it back into good order.
A standard self-storage unit does not improve matters. Temperature and humidity in an ordinary unit follow the outdoor seasons, which means a piano stored there faces conditions no better than it had at home. Our Oxfordshire facility holds both at a stable level throughout the year. Full insurance covers the instrument from the moment our crew arrives in Oldham to collect it, through every week it is with us, and through to re-delivery.
Who uses the service
Families downsizing or completing a house sale account for a large share of calls from across the Oldham area. A piano bought for children who have long since moved out sits in a room the owners want back, or a property is being sold and the instrument needs to go somewhere while the next chapter settles. We collect on Tuesday, store the piano properly, and re-deliver to any GB mainland or Belfast address whenever you are ready.
Probate and estate situations are a regular part of what we handle from across the OL postcodes. When a piano needs to be held securely while an estate resolves, the instrument can be collected without the executor being present on the day, provided access details are given at booking. The crew handles everything and the piano is insured throughout.
Private piano teachers changing studio, and schools across the OL area with an instrument between buildings, are also regular callers. A few months of insured, climate-controlled storage between teaching spaces runs through exactly the same booking as a family collection.
Pricing for Oldham
Prices include collection, climate-controlled storage and full insurance. Stairs without a lift and off-day collections are priced transparently in the booking. Re-delivery is quoted when you are ready for the piano back.
