Derby pianos come to us for many different reasons

Derby is a compact, practical city with a genuine musical culture sitting alongside its industrial and railway heritage. Families in Allestree, Littleover and Mickleover renovate older houses, downsize after a long family period, or take on a move that needs the piano out of the way for several months. Students and staff at the University of Derby go away on placements. Executors dealing with an estate in the DE area call us when a piano needs somewhere safe while probate moves slowly. We collect from all of them.

Access in Derby can be demanding. Much of the city is Victorian and Edwardian terrace housing, with hallways built narrow and stairs that climb steeply from the front door. Our specialist piano crews are used to those conditions. They wrap the instrument before it leaves the room, work methodically through tight spaces, and bring it out without damage to the piano or to the building.

Collection day

Thursday collections across the DE postcodes

Our Derby and Derbyshire collections run on Thursdays. A fixed weekly day keeps the route consistent and the pricing fair. We confirm a three-hour target window the day before your collection, so you are not left clearing a whole morning for a crew that has not given you a time. If Thursday genuinely will not work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an added charge.

If the piano sits up a staircase or down a narrow passage, stair access is priced in the online booking before you confirm anything. The full figure is visible before you commit to the booking.

Why climate control matters

Derbyshire winters and central heating swings are hard on a piano

Derby sits well inland and its winters can be sharp and damp. The pattern of cold nights and dry heated rooms pushes and pulls a piano's soundboard, pins and action throughout the season. An instrument left in an unheated space for a long winter, or in a room that swings between cold overnight and warm during the day, will need tuning at minimum and can suffer cracking, swollen keys or a seized action if those conditions continue unchecked.

Our storage facility holds a steady temperature and relative humidity throughout the year, with no seasonal variation and no weeks of being left cold while a house stands empty during a renovation. The piano arrives, is checked in, and sits in those consistent conditions until you call for re-delivery.

Full insurance covers the instrument from the moment our crew collects it to the moment it is returned to you. The facility is monitored around the clock with no public access. That level of protection matters whether the piano is in store for three weeks between completions or two years while a family is relocated with work.

Area coverage

Derby city and the surrounding Derbyshire towns

We collect from Derby city and across the full DE postcode area. Within the city that includes Allestree, Chaddesden, Mickleover, Littleover, Spondon and the city centre. Beyond the ring road the Thursday route covers Belper and Duffield to the north, Ilkeston and Heanor to the northeast, Swadlincote and the South Derbyshire villages, Ashbourne to the west, and Matlock and Wirksworth out toward the Peak District edge.

If your address sits at the edge of the DE area and you are not certain it falls on the Thursday route, the booking form confirms coverage when you enter your postcode.

Questions

Which day do you collect pianos in Derby?

We collect across Derby and the DE postcodes on Thursdays. We confirm a three-hour target window the day before. If Thursday does not work for you, an off-day collection can be arranged for an added charge.

Do you cover Belper, Ilkeston, Swadlincote and the Derbyshire towns outside the city?

Yes. We cover the full DE postcode area, including Belper, Duffield, Ilkeston, Heanor, Swadlincote, Ashbourne, Matlock and the villages in between, as well as Derby city and all its inner neighbourhoods.

My piano is on the first floor of a Victorian terrace with a steep staircase. Can you still collect it?

Yes. Our specialist crews work in narrow hallways and on tight staircases as a matter of course. Stair access is priced in the online booking before you confirm, so the full cost is clear before anything is agreed.

Is there a minimum storage period?

No. There is no minimum term. A few weeks between house moves, a university placement year, a long building project, an extended period working away or an estate that is taking time to settle all work the same way. You pay for the time you use.

Can a student at the University of Derby store a piano?

Yes. We collect from student houses and university accommodation across Derby. There is no minimum term. The instrument is kept safe in climate-controlled conditions and returned when your placement or term brings you back.

How is the piano protected while in storage?

Your piano is held in a climate-controlled facility with steady temperature and humidity throughout the year. It is fully insured from the moment our crew collects it to the moment it is returned to you. The facility is monitored around the clock and has no public access.
