Areas we cover
We collect pianos from Gateshead and the wider NE postcode area every Thursday, hold them in steady climate-controlled conditions in Oxfordshire, and return them when you are ready.
Book storageSouth side of the Tyne
Gateshead grew up around the Old Town Hall on the High Street, whose clock tower still marks the heart of the old town against the newer shopping quarter along Trinity Square. The residential streets that spread south and west from there - the terraces of Bensham, the Victorian rows around Saltwell, the flats and houses in Teams, Shipcote and Mount Pleasant - are where most of our NE8 collections happen. A house being staged for sale, a probate clearance, a renovation that has stretched past its original timetable, a downsize from a family house in Low Fell to something smaller in the centre: those are the situations that bring people to us.
Gateshead also has a live music community centred on the Glasshouse International Centre for Music on the quayside. Musicians, teachers and performers store with us between projects, tours and long gaps between bookings. We collect in NE postcodes every Thursday, and the same Thursday run covers the NE8 districts and the rest of the Gateshead area.

Collection day
Our Gateshead and NE-area collections run every Thursday. The route covers NE8 and the adjoining Gateshead districts - NE9, NE10, NE11 - and extends across the river to NE postcodes in Newcastle as well. We confirm a three-hour target window the day before, so you can arrange your morning without waiting in for most of it.
Our climate-controlled facility is in Oxfordshire, around 230 miles from Gateshead. We run the Thursday route weekly so that collections are consolidated and the cost stays consistent across the whole journey. Any stairs or access complications are priced clearly in the online booking before you confirm anything. If Thursday genuinely cannot work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an added charge.
Why climate control matters here
A large part of Gateshead's housing stock dates from the Victorian and Edwardian era. The thick-walled terraces in Bensham and Saltwell, the end-of-terrace properties with damp north-facing rooms, the older flats converted from larger houses - these buildings hold moisture in a way that newer construction does not. A piano left in a cold spare room during a long renovation, or in an empty property being cleared for probate, will slowly absorb that moisture from the surrounding air. Soundboards swell and crack, tuning pins lose their grip, and an action that felt right in September can play noticeably heavier by February.
Our Oxfordshire facility holds a steady temperature and controlled relative humidity throughout the year. The piano arrives properly wrapped, is stored undisturbed and fully insured, and returns on a single message. If you are weighing the alternatives, our guide to specialist piano storage versus a general self-storage unit explains what the difference means in practice. As part of the Pianospeed Group, specialist piano collection, handling and climate-controlled storage form one continuous operation - nothing passes through a third party.
Areas we cover
In and around the NE8 district we collect from Teams, Bensham, East Gateshead, Saltwell, Shipcote and Mount Pleasant. The Thursday route also covers the adjoining Gateshead postcode districts: NE9 including Low Fell, Wrekenton, Eighton Banks, Beacon Lough, Harlow Green and Sheriff Hill; NE10 including Leam Lane, Felling, Wardley, Heworth, Whitehills and Windy Nook; and NE11 including Team Valley, Dunston, Derwent Haugh, Dunston Hill, Lobley Hill and Kibblesworth.
On the Newcastle side of the Tyne, the same Thursday run covers NE4 (Fenham, Elswick, Arthur's Hill, South Benwell, Newcastle Helix), NE6 (Walker, Heaton, Byker, Walkergate, St Anthony's, Walkerville) and the central NE1 area. Our Newcastle piano storage page covers the NE postcode area in full for anyone collecting from north of the river. If you are unsure whether your address is on the route, enter your postcode in the booking form and it confirms straight away.
What we take in
We store upright pianos, baby grands, grands and concert grands. We also take digital and stage pianos, keyboards, and associated items such as stools, pedal boards and dust covers held alongside the main instrument. If you have a particular instrument or access situation you want to confirm before booking, call or email and we will tell you exactly what is involved.
Pricing for Newcastle upon Tyne
Prices include collection, climate-controlled storage and full insurance. Stairs without a lift and off-day collections are priced transparently in the booking. Re-delivery is quoted when you are ready for the piano back.
