Areas we cover
We collect pianos from Middlesbrough and across the TS postcode area on Thursdays, store them in steady climate-controlled conditions in our Oxfordshire facility, and return them whenever you are ready.
Book storageTown centre and beyond
Middlesbrough Town Hall anchors the centre of the town and carries a good deal of its civic memory. The Victorian building with its clock tower has stood since the 1880s and has been the setting for concerts, civic occasions and public events ever since. A lot of the pianos we collect on Thursdays have a similar vintage. The terraced streets across Gresham, Newport and Linthorpe were built around the same period, when Middlesbrough was expanding rapidly on the back of iron and steel production. Many of the uprights in those houses have been in the same front room for decades, tuned and cared for by several generations of the same family, and they are now at an address that cannot hold them any longer. We collect from all of them.
Middlehaven and the regenerated waterside around the old docks tell a different story. Newer apartments, shorter tenancies and households that move more often mean the instruments coming from those addresses tend to be more recent: stage pianos, digital keyboards, the occasional baby grand in a riverside flat. Whether the collection is from a Victorian terrace in Linthorpe or a converted building in Middlehaven, Thursday is the day, and the piano travels 205 miles to our climate-controlled Oxfordshire facility the same afternoon.

Collection day
We collect across the TS postcode area on Thursdays, weekly. TS1 is the core Middlesbrough district, covering the town centre and the residential streets surrounding it. The Thursday route extends further across the Teesside area as well: TS18 covering Stockton-on-Tees, Portrack, Hartburn, Oxbridge, St Ann's Hill and Grangefield; TS2 covering Port Clarence and High Clarence; TS4 covering Grove Hill, Easterside, Marton Grove and Beechwood; and TS5 covering Acklam, Linthorpe, Brookfield, Whinney Banks and Newport. The full spread of villages and districts is set out in the section below.
We confirm a three-hour target window the evening before collection. Stair access at your address is assessed and costed clearly when you book online, so you know the full picture before you confirm. There are no additions on the day. If Thursday genuinely cannot be made to work, an off-day collection can be arranged for an additional charge.
Villages and districts
TS1 is the core Middlesbrough district, taking in the town centre and the streets either side of it. TS2 extends to Port Clarence and High Clarence, smaller communities situated between Middlesbrough and the river. TS4 covers the residential areas to the east and south-east of the centre: Grove Hill, Easterside, Marton Grove and Beechwood, established housing where a good number of older uprights still live in family rooms.
TS5 is one of the busier districts on the Thursday run, covering Acklam, Linthorpe, Brookfield, Whinney Banks and Newport. Linthorpe in particular holds a high concentration of Edwardian and interwar terraced properties with pianos that have sat in the same room for a long time. TS18 takes in Stockton-on-Tees to the west, collecting from Portrack, Hartburn, Oxbridge, St Ann's Hill and Grangefield on the same Thursday route. The online booking form checks your postcode automatically as you enter it, so you can confirm your collection day before going any further.
Why conditions matter
The North East coast has a variable, often damp climate that changes quickly. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces across Linthorpe, Gresham and Newport hold moisture in their solid walls, and a piano in a poorly-heated room there is exposed to the kind of humidity swings that loosen tuning pins, swell soundboards and soften the glue holding the action together. A winter in an empty or lightly-heated house can do more damage than years of steady use in a well-maintained one.
A standard self-storage unit does not improve matters. Temperature and humidity in an ordinary unit follow the outdoor seasons, which for Middlesbrough means the same damp, variable air the piano came from. Our Oxfordshire facility holds both at a stable level throughout the year. Full insurance covers the instrument from the moment our crew arrives on Thursday to collect it, through every week it is with us, and through to re-delivery.
Who uses the service
Families across Linthorpe, Gresham and the older residential streets of TS1 and TS5 account for a large share of Thursday collections. The pattern is usually the same: a piano bought for children who have grown up and moved away, now in a room the household wants back. Sometimes the address is being sold or renovated. We collect on Thursday, store the piano at stable conditions in Oxfordshire, and re-deliver to any GB mainland or Belfast address whenever the next home is ready.
Estates and probate situations are a regular part of what we handle from across the TS area. When an instrument needs to be held while an estate resolves, the piano can be collected without the executor being present on the day, provided access details are given at booking. The crew handles everything, and the piano is insured throughout. Peripatetic teachers and students moving between term-time addresses in Teesside make up a smaller but steady portion of what we collect each Thursday.
Pricing for Middlesbrough
Prices include collection, climate-controlled storage and full insurance. Stairs without a lift and off-day collections are priced transparently in the booking. Re-delivery is quoted when you are ready for the piano back.

No. There is no minimum term. A few weeks while a property sale completes, a few months between addresses, or a longer period during an estate settlement: all work the same way. You pay for the time the piano is with us.
