Piano storage
When a refurbishment, a change of concept or a venue closure means the piano cannot stay on site, we collect it, store it in climate-controlled conditions and re-deliver when the room is ready.
Book storageWhy venues call us
Hotels and hospitality venues store pianos with us at turning points that most properties will face at least once. A bar or lounge is being completely refurbished and the grand that has sat there for years cannot share a site with builders, plaster dust and power tools. A wedding venue is reconfiguring its ballroom layout and the piano needs somewhere safe until the room settles. A hotel is changing its food and beverage concept and the live music programme is pausing while the new direction takes shape.
In each case the piano is a valuable asset, usually insured and sometimes irreplaceable, and the site cannot protect it during a period of disruption. A reputable specialist storage arrangement solves the problem: the instrument comes off site on a documented collection, goes into a facility built for it, and returns when the space is ready.

The risk of improvising
The instinct when a piano needs to move is to find the nearest available space on site: a back corridor, a function room that will not be touched by the works, a hired self-store unit around the corner. Each of these options carries real risk for an instrument that cost many thousands of pounds and may be central to the venue's identity.
A grand piano or a quality upright is sensitive to exactly the conditions that building works and poorly managed spaces create. Dust infiltrates the action. Temperature swings during a months-long closure loosen pins and crack soundboards. Damp in an unused wing does the kind of damage that requires costly specialist work to undo. A general self-store unit is not climate-controlled and provides no specialist piano insurance as standard. The cost of proper storage is trivial against the cost of restoring or replacing a damaged instrument.
How we handle commercial collections
Commercial collections from hotels and venues are straightforward to arrange. You tell us the location, the type of piano, and any access details such as a goods lift, a narrow corridor or a step at the entrance. Our specialist piano crew arrives in a confirmed window, wraps and protects the instrument before it moves, and takes it to our climate-controlled facility. The whole collection is logged, and we can provide written confirmation of collection and storage details for your insurance records.
If a hotel group has more than one piano to move, or if the instrument is coming out of a difficult room, we handle the logistics before the day so there are no surprises on site. Access challenges including stairs without a lift and tight passageways are priced clearly at booking rather than added as extras on collection day.
Flexible terms for commercial timescales
Refurbishments run over. Concept changes take longer to bed in than expected. A venue closure that was supposed to last three months becomes six. These are the realities of hospitality, and storage terms that force a fixed contract on a programme that cannot commit to a fixed end date create unnecessary cost and stress.
There is no fixed term on any booking. You pay for the time the piano is actually in storage, billed in four-weekly cycles. When the renovation is complete and the room is ready, you book re-delivery and the piano comes back. If the timeline extends, the billing continues at the same rate and you do not need to negotiate a new contract. Because PianoStorage is part of the Pianospeed Group, the whole journey from first collection to final placement is handled by one organisation with one record of the instrument.
Simple, transparent pricing
Prices include collection, climate-controlled storage and full insurance. Stairs without a lift and off-day collections are priced transparently in the booking. Re-delivery is quoted when you are ready for the piano back.
Questions
Yes. This is one of the most common commercial collections we handle. We collect the piano from site before the works begin, hold it in climate-controlled storage throughout the refurbishment, and re-deliver when the room is ready to receive it back. There is no fixed term, so the storage runs to match the actual project timeline rather than a contract you have to commit to in advance.
Yes. We provide written confirmation of collection and can supply details of the storage conditions and insurance cover for your own records. If your insurers or asset managers require specific information about how the instrument is held, contact us before booking and we will confirm what we can provide.
Yes. Multiple instruments from the same site are handled as part of one booking where possible. Tell us at the time of booking how many pianos there are and any relevant details about access, and we will plan the collection accordingly so both instruments are moved in the same operation.
Our specialist crews handle uprights and grands from upper floors regularly, including rooms with narrow staircases or awkward access. Access like stairs without a lift, a tight corridor or a goods-only entrance is priced clearly during the booking process, so you see the full cost before you confirm and there are no additions on the day.
Yes. There is no maximum storage period. Instruments stay with us for as long as needed, billed in four-weekly cycles. If you are in the middle of a property sale, a lease change or a period of uncertainty about the venue's future, the piano can remain in storage until you are ready to make a decision. You are not committing to a destination when you book, only to the current storage arrangement.
Nothing changes on our side. Storage continues on the same four-weekly billing cycle until you book re-delivery. You do not need to notify us that the timeline has moved, and there is no penalty or renegotiation needed. When the room is ready you get in touch and we confirm the next available re-delivery date for your area.
We cover GB mainland and Belfast. Every postcode area has one set collection day each week, and we confirm a 3-hour arrival window the day before. For commercial collections that need a specific day rather than the standard weekly slot, an off-day option is available and priced clearly at booking.
