Secure Piano Warehouse UK — Facility Specification

Our Piano Storage Facility

Most piano-storage failures aren’t mysterious. Damp lock-ups crack soundboards. Unmonitored buildings overheat in summer. Shared self-storage facilities expose instruments to the dust of every other tenant’s belongings. This page lays out exactly what our facility is, in numbers.

Climate Control

  • Temperature: 18–21°C, year-round.
  • Relative humidity: 45–55%, conditioned both directions (humidified in winter, dehumidified in summer).
  • Monitoring: continuous logging, alerts on excursions outside target band.
  • Air handling: filtered intake, no shared circulation with non-instrument tenants.

Why these numbers: pianos are most stable between 45% and 55% relative humidity at 18–21°C. Lower humidity dries the soundboard and cracks it. Higher humidity swells the action and slows the hammers. Temperature swings move both, repeatedly.

Security

  • 24/7 CCTV with off-site recording.
  • Monitored intruder alarm with police-grade response.
  • Key-fob access — no master keys distributed.
  • Gated, fenced yard with vehicle access control.
  • Access logs retained.

Fire Protection

  • Heat and smoke detection with independent monitoring.
  • Designed-for-purpose extinguishing systems.
  • No shared building with high-risk tenants.

Insurance

Standard cover is declared-value up to £250,000 per instrument while in our care, including in-transit. Higher limits are available on request — declare value at booking and we’ll confirm cover before collection.

Handling Protocol

Every piano arriving at the warehouse is photographed, condition-logged, and shelved according to type:

  • Uprights: stored upright on heavy-duty bolster padding.
  • Baby grands & grands: dismantled (legs, lyre, pedals), wrapped, stored on side on a custom skid.
  • Concert grands: as above; allocated extra floor space.

Insurance Tiers at a Glance

  • Standard: up to £25,000 declared value — included.
  • Mid: £25,000 – £100,000 — included on declaration.
  • High: £100,000 – £250,000 — included on declaration.
  • Concert / collector: above £250,000 — quoted case-by-case.
